Human rights day

Today being International Human Rights Day, something we often take for granted here, I feel the need to be reminded by others of how lucky I am to live here. that being said here's some reminders that I think we all should read:

Message from a Cuban dissident
A brave monk from Burma
How China celebrates Human Rights Day
In Belarus

And that is just to name a few...

Charter 08, sadly, was doomed from the very beginning.

The Chinese legal system has been used to suppress the encroachment of Western principles both from within that system and from without. They aren't going to stop anytime soon.

Writing about these things and spreading the word is good. It's important for China to know that the world is watching and taking account of their misdeeds, but sadly, I fear they simply don't care.

You're right, China doesn't care about their human rights record, no matter how many people watch or complain. Most of the western world needs China to survive and China knows that. That alone gives them license to do pretty much whatever they want.
