Che: A Hero of the 20th Century?
Image from lasshrugs2000.typepad.com
What would a week be like without me writing about Cuba? I don't know. I don't think it's happened yet. So here is your weekly dose of the rantings of a Canadian about a corrupt government that enslaves its people and tells them it's for their own good...
I recently downloaded from The Pirate Bay the new Che movie with Benicio del Toro. Just because I wanted to see what kind of one-sided propaganda style of film this was going to be without supporting the film monetarily. I never got around to watching it, but it did motivate me to do some research online to see how many people actually thought Che was a hero.
One of the first websites I found was a website called MoreOrLess which lists heroes and killers of the 20th century. Surprisingly Che is listed in the Heroes category along side of the Dalai Lama and Rosa Parks. In his bio on the site there is no mention of the cold blooded killing machine we all know. It's almost like the person writing the site watched "Motorcycle Diaries" and decided Che was awesome.
I wonder what Rosa Parks would say about being categorized as a hero by the same people who think a mass murderer is a hero? Or maybe we should ask the embodiment of peace and serenity himself the Dalai Lama.
Tonight I'm going to sit down in front of my computer and watch the pirated copy of the infamous Che movie and post a review in the coming days for all of you to read. If you need to watch this movie for any reason please do not pay money to go, just "steal" it, I'll post up the link to the torrent along with my revue.

Here's something you might enjoy.
People really are clueless about this guy. It takes a particularly cold individual to kill someone's family after they've met his demands.
Actually, here's something even better.
Oh, those crazy Phi Delts.
I love the song!!! I'm going to find the album it's on and buy it!
Zurama who posts here sometimes had a few interesting shot documentaries about Che up on her English blog a while ago. They should go a long way to educate people a little bit better about the marketing icon.
Muchacho, if you can understand Spanish, there is a video on the Spanish version of Sunrise in Havana, that has an interview of Del Toro with a young female reporter in Miami, that shows how little he knows about the human garbage in question. She left him speechless, and ended the interview, by giving him a book on the real Che Guevara, the look on his face was priceless.
Actors aren't exactly known for the depth of their knowledge on some of the figures they portray.
You are probably right Patrick, but Del Toro started the interview by claiming to have studied Che for seven years. He ended up sounding so stupid and the reporter ran circles around him. :)

You are all a bunch of idiots who don't know a thing about the 'real' Che Guevara. He was seen as a hero by most many years before any movies were made about him. All of the stuff you are touting is American propaganda designed to make everyone fear communism. Any killing that Che was involved in was in response to the cruel and harsh regime that was already in place at the time. Before you start shouting your facist mouths off, you should get your facts right and consider the oppressed people that he helped.
I'm fairly certain that I do have my facts straight. I'm not knocking the good old Che from Motorcycle diaries that helped lepers and stuff... What I'm knocking is the man he later became.
Also, I believe that before you call anyone commenting here fascists you should take a few minutes and read their blogs, or take some time and ponder a little thing called "Freedom of thought", everyone here is entitled to write or think whatever they want to.
I welcome more of your comments and insight here anytime. Thank you for your comment :D
