Fidel Castro dead?

Rumors are once again swirling around the internet that Fidel Castro is either dead or on his deathbed. I've said so myself at least 3 dozen times in the last year. I'm sure that he's been dead or at least very ill for a long time. At this point who really knows outside of a handful of people that consist of his entourage. I don't have any inside sources, I don't know anyone in his entourage, but I know how to use Google and this is what the rumor mills has to say so far:

Along the Malecon
Castro Death Watch
MSNBC
Canada Free Press
Havana Journal

There's a million more links in Spanish within these stories.

I always wished I'd be in Cuba when this happened. Sipping a mojito and watching the scene in the streets. Who knows maybe the rumors are once again JUST RUMORS and Fidel will wait until the next time I go!

I'm not entirely sure we should want Castro to die.

First off, there's the whole thing about wishing harm on another human being -- although I'm certain this isn't what you actually mean.

Then, there's the matter of succession. If Castro dies without ensuring that a peaceful transition of power has occurred to whomever his successor will be, the alternative is chaos, and likely more misery for the Cuban people.

It's a catch .22, unfortunately.

I was taught to respect all life, but in this case, I will make an exception.

Castro is the source of our nightmares. To me he is as worthless as Hitler. Good riddens to him and his miserable life.

Patrick what gave you the idea that a man who had 20,000 Cubans executed in his first months in power would have cared about a peaceful transition?

Zurama... I agree... Castro is my one exception. I don't wish him harm per say, but lets just say I won't be in mourning when he's no longer around.

I think Patrick was referring to the chaos that might ensue in Cuba if there was a void to fill.

I know what he meant, but with all the blood that the Castro brothers spill, it's not going to be pretty.

Muchacho he already filled it with his murderous little brother, but the Castro death is very significant to us.

By the way I want to set up a list of Venezuelan resistance blogs in English for Sunrise in Havana-if you know of any send them my way.

What happened to your other blog?

I know that the Castro death is very significant to you, as it is to all of us with strong ties to loved ones living in Cuba...

To be honest with you I don't know very many Venezuelan resistance bloggers... But if I come across any I'll send them your way.

I killed my other blog. One was enough for me :D
I've been doing some behind the scene work on other sites that has taken up a lot of my time and I couldn't maintain two.

I think you were the only one who ever read it.

Thanks and it's too bad about your other blog, this one is awesome, so keep up the good work.

Just because Fidel has appointed his brother doesn't mean that it will be accepted by self-interested Cuban officials who may try to plot and seize power.

It's in Cuba's best interests for Fidel Castro to ensure the conditions for a peaceful transition of power are in place.

Just like it's in Cuba's best interests to depose lil' Castro as peacefully as possible.

We don't have to like it, but that is reality.

I think that Chaos will ensue either way. Fidel is a larger then life symbol of this "revolution" and when he goes it won't really matter who's on top.

Patrick Fidel couldn't shut his mouth even after he handed power over to his brother.

He hasn't been seen for a long time!
We know he's dead, so he can't assure anything anymore.

What will happen is anybodies guess now.
